How an estate auction works
A plain-English walk-through of an estate auction, from the first call to sale day.
An estate auction turns the contents of a home — and sometimes the home itself — into a clear result on a single, set date.
It usually starts with a consultation. The auctioneer walks through the property, talks with the family or executor, and explains how a sale could work.
Next comes preparation: items are organized, grouped into lots and photographed. Marketing goes out so buyers know what's coming.
On sale day, bidders compete openly. When the gavel falls, each lot is sold. Specific terms, fees and payment timing are set out in the seller's agreement.
Every estate is different. If you're settling one in Northeast Ohio, a free consultation is the easiest way to understand your options.
